Project Summary

This project aims to liberate the Riasat family—six members including Riasat, his wife, two sons, and two daughters—from 22 years of bonded labor in a brick kiln in Pakistan. Trapped in a cycle of debt and exploitation, they are forced to work under harsh conditions for meager wages. The project seeks to raise 1,700€ to pay off their total debt and provide a second-hand Loader Rickshaw (1,600€) to help them start a small goods transport business. This initiative will not only restore their freedom but also offer a sustainable path to financial independence.

Background

For over two decades, the Riasat family has been enslaved in a brick kiln under a debt of 1,700€. Every day, they are expected to make up to 8,000 bricks by hand—a near-impossible target. They are paid only PKR 900 (approx. 3€) per 1,000 bricks. In ideal (yet unrealistic) circumstances, they could earn about 24€ per day. However, due to harsh climate conditions and physical limits, they typically manage around 3,000 bricks daily, earning only about 9€.Out of this income, 50% goes toward debt repayment, leaving them with around 4.50€ per day to cover food, utilities, and health care. This exploitation guarantees a lifetime of poverty and enslavement unless external help is provided.

Objectives

  • Debt Liberation: Raise and pay off €1,700 to immediately free the Riasat family from bondage.
  • Livelihood Support: Provide a second-hand Loader Rickshaw (€1,600) to start a small goods transportation business.
  • Sustainable Income: Enable the family to earn up to €300 per month—five times their current income.
  • Reintegration and Dignity: Help the family reintegrate into society with dignity and economic independence.

Expected Impact

  • Immediate Freedom: End 22 years of modern slavery for six individuals.
  • Economic Empowerment: Increase their monthly income from 60€ to 300€.
  • Sustainable Livelihood: A family-run transport business offers long-term stability.
  • Human Rights Restored: A life of dignity, opportunity, and freedom for an entire family.
