Project Summary

This project seeks to free the Akram Gulzar family—a household of six individuals—from the brutal grip of 25 years of bonded labor in a brick kiln in Pakistan. Trapped for over two decades in a cycle of debt, exploitation, and hopelessness, they have been forced to work in inhumane conditions with no realistic path to freedom.

This initiative aims to raise a total of 3,800€ to cover their debt repayment (2,300€), provide business startup support (1,050€), fund a security deposit for housing (250€), and deliver urgent medical care (200€). The goal is not only to set them free—but to restore their dignity, independence, and health.

Background

For 25 long years, the Gulzar family has been enslaved in a brick kiln, forced to mold thousands of bricks by hand under harsh working conditions. Despite their relentless labor, they earned only around 6€ per day, a sum insufficient to meet even basic human needs.

Due to exploitative repayment schemes and constantly increasing interest, their original debt has remained unpaid—and even grown. They live in overcrowded, unhealthy conditions, with no access to proper healthcare or education for their children.

Without outside intervention, the family is doomed to a life of continued bondage, hardship, and generational poverty.

Objectives

  • Debt Liberation
Raise 2,300€ to pay off the debt and secure the family’s immediate release from bonded labor.

  • Livelihood Support
Provide 1,050€ to help start a fruit and vegetable selling business, creating a sustainable and independent income stream.

  • Secure Housing
Allocate 250€ for a security deposit so the family can move into safe, independent accommodation.

  • Medical Assistance
Fund 200€ for urgent medical treatment—especially needed due to years of untreated physical and psychological strain.

  • Long-Term Reintegration
Enable the family to earn up to 500€ per month, ensuring lasting financial stability and social reintegration.

Expected Impact

  • End of 25 Years of Slavery
Immediate freedom from decades of bondage for six human beings.

  • Economic Uplift
Transition from a subsistence income of under 100€/month to a sustainable 500€/month through small business ownership.

  • Safe Living Conditions
A secure home to begin rebuilding life with dignity and peace.

  • Improved Health and Mental Well-being
Access to basic medical care and psychological recovery.

  • Dignity and Hope Restored
Reclaim their rights, their humanity, and their future.
